Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

The Emergency Response team plays a significant role in leading and contributing to our child protection responses in a variety of small, medium and large scale emergencies, ensuring that child protection programmes are designed and implemented in line with our global strategy.

As Child Protection Coordinator, your mission will be to assess, design and guide staff to initiate interventions which will enforce children’s rights and protect them from abuse, exploitation, violence and neglect.   You will conceptualise, design, fundraise, implement and evaluate quality child protection programmes tailored to a range of humanitarian contexts, whilst at the same time engaging and mentoring children, staff, authorities and communities to build their capacity and take the work forward.  Living and working in different contexts and settings and focused on a range of child protection issues, each of your deployments will be different from the last, which makes this job very challenging and exciting. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Programme support, typically at field level
  • Capacity building
  • Representation, advocacy and organisational learning
  • Delivering results and enhancing our international reputation for humanitarian service.

We’re looking for someone with experience of implementing Child Protection responses in humanitarian contexts, including work on one of the four key CPiE thematic areas: unaccompanied and separated children, children associated with armed forces and armed groups (CAAFAG); sexual violence; and psychosocial support. Having worked in challenging NGO/INGO/UN humanitarian Child Protection contexts, you will have developed strong adaptability skills. You must also have:

  • Experience of child protection programming in a range of humanitarian contexts
  • A relevant qualification
  • Language skills – particularly French and Arabic.

All members of our ERP team are available and ready to be deployed anywhere in the world at short notice.  You will normally work unusual hours, undertake a lot of travel (up to 80% of the time) and will often work in stressful and insecure environments.

In return, you will receive 35 days Annual Leave per year, medical insurance while on deployment, travel and accommodation provided for, paid R&R, gross salary paid from UK plus hardship allowance, complexity allowance and expensive posting allowance where applicable.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we`ll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
