Role overview
• Taking patient history and conducting a preliminary physical exam before surgery.
• Prepare patients for surgery by explaining any risks or side effects
• Administering general or local anesthesia
• Observe and monitor patients during surgery, responding quickly to any changes
• Resuscitate and stabilize patients in the emergency department
• Relieve pain during childbirth
• Ease pain after an operation
• Manage acute and chronic pain
• Monitoring patients under anesthesia
• Inserting invasive monitoring devices
• Operating advanced life support systems
• Taking diagnostic samples such as venous blood for testing.
• Assisting as appropriate in ICUs, pain clinics, labor and delivery units, etc.
• Capacity development of other hospital doctors and nurses

Skills, qualifications and experience required
Essential
• MD in Anesthesia
• Experience of providing anaesthetic agents during C- section
• Coaching and mentoring hospital staff for capacity development
• Experience of conducting in service training
• Fully accredited anaesthetic with special interest in maternity unit.
• Competent in teaching operative and clinical skills
• At least 3 years post graduate experience
• All applicants must possess strong written and spoken English language skills. Applicants may be required to take a VSO language test as part of the selection process.

Desirable
• Medical education experience or accreditation
• Management training/experience
• Advanced adult/ paediatric / neonatal life support skills/accreditation
• Experience of management of service provision/ expansion
• General Practice experience
• Experience working in resource limited, rural environments
