Do you want to join an organisation that fights for children every single day? We are looking for a Senior Education Advisor to play a leadership role in defining and delivering the Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning framework for SC UK’s work in early learning.

In our UK and Global Programmes department, we fight for children every single day. We deliver humanitarian and development programmes. We build partnerships with institutional donors, including governments, multi-laterals and trusts. We drive lasting change. We go the extra mile - and we don’t rest until the work is done.

This post sits within the Education team in the Programme Policy and Quality (PPQ) department.  The team is responsible for defining and delivering on the education strategy and plan.  Team members ensure all proposal and programmes meet technical quality standards through the provision of technical input on all aspects of a programme including MEAL.  There are also responsibilities to report back to a wide range of stakeholders about impact and lessons learned, including key funders.

Save the Children’s LEARN ‘breakthrough’ states that ‘by 2030 all children are benefitting from a quality basic education and are learning’. To achieve this, SC UK’s work in early learning focuses on ensuring children, especially the most marginalised, receive the support they need from birth to primary school.  This includes working with caregivers, the wider community and government to ensure that children receive effective stimulation and responsive care (as well as nutrition, health and protection) at home and quality early learning environments in pre-primary and primary.

Job Purpose:

  •  Early Learning and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability & Learning (MEAL) plays a leadership role in defining and delivering the Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning framework for SC UK’s work in early learning.
  • They provide technical support to Country Offices on proposals, funded programmes, country education strategies, MEAL frameworks and related advocacy work.
  • They play a leadership role in the development of SC UK’s education strategy and the strategic thinking of the wider SC movement, and to SC UK’s wider organisational commitments and values.

To be successful you will have an internationally recognised post graduate degree in early learning or related subjects, or have relevant alternative experience. Strong analytical and conceptual skills are also essential, as is experience of providing technical assistance and individual mentoring to NGO programme teams in education. You will also have a good understanding of child rights principles. In addition you will have:

  • Well-developed negotiation and communication skills, including written and spoken English
  • Substantial experience in the design, implementation and management of education programmes in an international context, including experience in early learning
  • The ability to analyse complex data in a technical area and to summarise and communicate this in ways that are accessible to a range of audiences and cultures
  • Experience and knowledge of education-related monitoring and evaluation approaches, especially for early learning.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

If you share our belief in the power of children, join the fight. It takes relentless determination, creativity and a real commitment to real change. Because every child should be able to make their mark on their world, and help to build a better future. We look forward to hearing from you.
