About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the DRC programme:

Between 1996 and 2003, the Democratic Republic of Congo was the site of the most deadly conflict since World War Two, which led to as many as 5.4 million deaths and left the country contaminated by landmines and unexploded ordnance. MAG has been working in DRC since 2004 removing and destroying landmines and carrying out risk education work with communities, to raise awareness of the problems and promote safe behaviour. We are also the only non-governmental organisation accredited to carry out arms management and destruction initiatives in the country, which began in 2006.

About the role:

As the senior technical representative in country, you will be responsible for planning, leading and safely managing MAG’s mine clearance, EOD and Arms Management and Destruction (AMD) operations.  You will hold a recognisable EOD qualification and have extensive experience of implementing   efficient clearance operations and a breadth of AMD activities in challenging environments. Working closely with and reporting to the Country Director, you will be accountable for all technical operations, providing high quality technical input into proposals, ensuring smooth operations and generating quality data for reports. You will be the technical lead with donors and government agencies. As a member of the Programme Senior Management Team you will demonstrate your experience of working strategically and ensuring efficient high output clearance work.  You will manage multiple teams of national and international staff, ensuring they plan for, organise and keep teams well-motivated and performing, working with the framework of MAG’s vision and values.

About you:

You will have excellent people and project management skills with the ability to coordinate, design, manage and report on activities simultaneously. Previous experience of working in a senior technical position within a similar organisation is essential.  This is a demanding yet highly rewarding position that will be suited to a highly motivated, solution-focused and flexible manager. You will need previous experience of managing all phases of large scale technical operations. Previous experience of being responsible for programmes in a challenging political, logistical and security environment would also be highly advantageous.  French language skills are highly desirable.
