We are looking for a confident and adaptable Learning Support Officer to join the Global Learning Team at the newly launched organization - the Humanitarian Leadership Academy (Academy).

The mission of the Academy is to enable people around the world to prepare for and respond to crises in their own countries. The Academy works with the humanitarian sector and new partners from the technology industry, private sector and universities to help communities become more resilient in the face of disaster and give them access to learning to respond to crises in their own countries.

As Learning Support Officer, you will form part of a newly established Network Support Unit which is situated within the Global Academy Office in London. This unit will act as the dedicated ‘first line’ liaison between the Academy Centres and the Global Academy Office for the delivery of start-up support and services. You will focus on initial planning and operational support to help our network of Academy Centres to set up and kick-start their learning strategy and portfolio of learning projects as effectively and efficiently as possible. You will provide ongoing support services to established Academy Centres and will be line managed by the Learning Programmes Manager.  In addition you will:

  • Contribute to the development of new initiatives and support the identification of learning needs and opportunities in the areas of humanitarian learning and knowledge management
  • Work in close coordination with the Academy Centre Directors and MEAL Manager to establish standards, processes and tools that adhere to global Academy standards during the start-up phase
  • Work with the Global Learning Team and Academy Centres to support the identification, development, contextualisation and roll-out of learning products and pathways
  • Contribute to regular internal and external reporting and actively contribute to wider team planning and development ensuring that content planning aligns with strategic needs.

To be successful in this role, you will have previous experience working in a learning team to develop and deliver learning content to a variety of different audiences. You will be a self-starter with strong inter-personal and relationship building skills along with a hands-on initiative-led approach. Experience in the design and development of blended learning and experience working in middle or low income countries is also essential. You will also have a solid understanding of the humanitarian sector and the challenges facing it. In addition you will have:

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills and the ability to research, analyse and adapt material to suit different audience needs
  • Demonstrable project management experience
  • The ability to manage financial information relating to project budgets and query inaccuracies and the ability to present this information in an understandable and appropriate way
  • The confidence to try out new ideas and take risks and challenges where needed
  • Strong IT skills e.g. fluency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint, or equivalents.

It is essential that you are willing to travel extensively. Knowledge of French and/or Arabic is desirable.
