UK PROGRAMME DEVELOPMENT & QUALITY TEAM

As part of the expansion of our senior team, we are looking for a credible leader to join our UK Programme Development & Quality Team as Head of Innovation.  You will lead our Innovation Team in the creative development and co-production of new programmes and resources that involve radical solutions and maximise our ability to impact on children’s wellbeing in the UK.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our UK and Global Programmes department delivers humanitarian and development programmes, builds partnerships with institutional donors – including governments, multi-nationals and trusts – and drives lasting change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential. In the UK, our new strategy focuses on children in poverty and the early years, and on supporting children coming to the UK as a result of international conflict.

As Head of Innovation you will provide strategic leadership to the Innovation Team and to our work on innovation and programme development, embedding cutting edge approaches. You will ensure that our work reflects leading practice and innovation within the sector and the latest technological advances. In addition you will:

  • Identify future opportunities for innovation, based on strategic analysis of needs and markets and collaboration with our national delivery and policy teams
  • Lead the establishment of strategic vision and objectives for programmes in development, ensuring long term, feasible, sustainable and cost effective strategies for delivery at scale
  • Embed excellent systems for scoping programme opportunities and for testing, development and refinement of innovations
  • Establish and sustain strong partnerships at senior level with sector organizations and delivery partners.

To be successful you will have extensive experience and an impressive track record in innovating programmes, resources and services.  A creative and innovative thinker, you will have the ability to develop, and secure commitment to, breakthrough ideas. In addition you will have:

  • A strong understanding of theory, principles, established approaches and evidence concerning effective innovation and programme design
  • An outstanding ability to use cutting edge thinking and innovation in the development of programmes and resources
  • In-depth knowledge of the early years sector and of key programmes and approaches
  • A good understanding of the impact of poverty on children, families and communities, and the barriers to positive change
  • The ability to travel frequently within the UK and to spend weekly time in London.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
