We are looking for an experienced and committed individual to join us as Humanitarian Awards Advisor, ensuring high standards of awards management and compliance with donor requirements in emergency programmes worldwide.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian Department integrates emergency and post-crisis work, through Save the Children country offices. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Humanitarian Awards Advisor you will lead on the effective management of the Humanitarian Department’s portfolio of emergency response awards, as well as on donor compliance capacity building and process improvement, both within SCUK and working with SCI country offices.

Providing leadership and oversight to up to five Humanitarian Awards Team members, you will support them with complex technical issues and portfolio management, as well as facilitating their professional development.

In addition you will:

  • Oversee SCUK portfolio of emergency awards, managed by direct reports or directly by this position.
  • Provide SCUK Humanitarian Response team with support in award coordination during emergency responses, acting as initial point person on award management for large scale emergencies
  • Provide donor compliance expertise for key humanitarian donors (e.g. DEC, ECHO, DFID, OCHA, etc.), throughout the award management cycle, including reviews of proposals and reports, timely and relevant advice on specific queries, training and support on general donor relations.
  • Support the Head of the Humanitarian Awards in donor research including their strategies, areas of focus and donor regulations
  • Coordinate with other SCUK and SCI departments (such as the Partnership Development, Donor Compliance and Regional Portfolio Teams) to ensure consistency and synergies in institutional donor knowledge, account strategies and donor compliance.

To be successful you will have a strong understanding of and substantial direct experience in the award management cycle, including proposal and report submission best practices, efficient monitoring of financial aspects and risk management.

You will have the ability to provide high level and high quality advice on donor requirements and expectations for proposals, reports and award management. And you must have experience working with major donors such as DEC, DFID, ECHO and UN agencies.

In addition you will have:

  • Substantial experience working for an international organisation
  • Experience managing complex and multi-donor award portfolios
  • Experience of reviewing multi-sectoral, regional emergency proposals and reports
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to challenge and negotiate assertively and cooperatively with senior staff
  • Strong numeracy skills and acumen for the financial side of award reporting.
  • Willingness to travel for 20-30% of the year, often at short notice and occasionally to remote and insecure locations

The ability to work in French, Spanish or Arabic is desirable.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.
