£36,000 - £38,500 (dependent on skill set and experience)

London – with up to 40% international travel

We are looking for an Education Adviser to join us and contribute to the education strategy and plan through the provision of technical support to Country Offices on proposals, funded programmes, country education strategies, with a strong focus on MEAL frameworks.

As Education Advisor - Basic Education you will contribute to the development of SC UK’s education strategy and the strategic thinking of the wider SC movement. You will also contribute to SC UK’s wider organisational commitments and values and provide technical assistance in the development of high quality concept notes and proposals in collaboration with Country Office. Contributing to Country education strategies and the development of education approaches whilst focusing on those relating to basic education, you will have the view to improve the quality and scale of interventions. Representing SC UK to potential funders, you will also:

  • Contribute to the creation of robust MEAL frameworks in new proposals
  • Provide technical assistance in the delivery of funded programmes, ensuring cost recovery targets are met
  • Provide support that strengthens the capacity of education staff in country
  • Contribute to the identification and management of risk and underperformance in ongoing programmes
  • Keep up to date on relevant global education policy and programming within and beyond the SC movement focusing on basic education.

To be successful you will have a PhD or Ed in Education or an internationally recognised degree or equivalent experience. With working knowledge of English, French, Portuguese, Spanish or Arabic, you will have a solid understanding of child rights principles. You will have experience providing technical assistance and individual mentoring to NGO programmes teams in education and have experience and knowledge of education-related monitoring and evaluation approaches. In addition, you will have:

  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills and the ability to think and plan strategically
  • Well-developed negotiation and communication skills, including written and spoken English
  • Experience in the design, implementation and management of education programmes in an international context
  • Experience providing technical assistance and individual mentoring to NGO programmes teams in education
  • Experience working in a matrix-managed context and experience promoting change across multiple networks.

The ability to travel up to 40% of the time is also essential.
