About MAG:

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About MAG in Senegal:

MAG supports the development of countries emerging from conflict by finding and destroying the explosive remnants of war, so that communities can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury.  One predominate area of focus in MAG’s programmes across West Africa is Arms Management and Destruction (AMD) work, working with national defence and security authorities towards the safe storage management as well as destruction of weapons and munitions..  Senegal is a new project for MAG, following recent assessments in country, and MAG will be working with local security forces and national authorities across a number of AMD activities.

About the role:

Our Technical Field Managers are the core of our work, and actively manage and lead our teams of national staff to safely implement our life saving work. MAG’s AMD Technical Field Managers liaise with national and local defence and security authorities, seeking to improve weapons and ammunition stockpile management. AMD operations are usually focused on armoury construction, design and management, weapons management, needs assessment and bulk demolitions. MAG’s TFMs are responsible for the day-to-day management of all technical interventions and as well as managing administration, finance, procurement, reporting and planning.

The role in Senegal will focus on stockpile demolitions and training national security forces. This is part of a bigger regional project in West Africa with the view to seeking longer term funding.

About you:

The successful candidate must have an EOD Level 3 qualification and will ideally be both qualified and experienced in AMD work. However, we will also consider applications from candidates who have gained the relevant technical skills within the military providing they are qualified to EOD Level 3 standards. Such candidates should have a keen interest and willingness to learn the skills needed for AMD work and MAG will provide on the job training where required.

Successful candidates will also need excellent diplomacy and liaison skills to effectively build relationships with local authorities and security forces. Finally, all candidates must be willing to take on the challenges of working in the developing world and working as part of a flexible and committed team, to save lives in communities that need it most.

Fluent written and spoken French and English Language skills are essential.
