Staff reporting to this post         : Staff and teams working in protection in the country to which the HSP is deployed.

Locations                                    : Home base and countries of deployment.

Annual Budget                           : Varies, dependent on deployment.

 

JOB PURPOSE

The Protection HSP supports the integration of protection into emergency responses including running protection projects where relevant. The main purpose of this flexible resource is to ensure that protection issues are identified and responded to in an appropriate manner in line with global humanitarian and sectoral standards, and to lead on protection issues in humanitarian responses.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE

Essential

 

  • Extensive emergency response experience working in acute contexts (both conflict and natural disasters) including insecure environments;

  • Knowledge and understanding of protection and experience of working on these issues in humanitarian field programmes;

  • Enhanced and demonstrable collaboration and networking skills

  • Excellent understanding of gender in conflict and disasters including the ability to analyse gender issues in a protection context and incorporate gender into all key responsibilities;

  • Technical knowledge and understanding of protection including relevant international standards (eg. International Humanitarian Law)

  • Demonstrable project management skills and experience;

  • A proven capacity for mentoring, facilitation, training, capacity building and coaching;

  • Ability to build positive team dynamics, and motivate and manage a team

  • A proven capacity to work in diverse teams in different cultural contexts

  • Ability to negotiate and influence internal and external audiences

  • An ability for creative problem solving and innovation in complex and /or restrictive working environments;

  • An ability to work independently, as well as motivating others to work in a dynamic and collaborative manner to achieve the overall objectives of the team

  • Excellent written and spoken English and French

     

    Desirable

     

  • Understanding of Oxfam’s approach to protection

  • Experience working in unstable and insecure situations

  • Expertise in conflict sensitivity, disaster risk-reduction, policy research and/or international advocacy an advantage.

  • An advantage if the candidate is able to communicate fluently in Spanish or Arabic.
