We are looking for a Monitoring Evaluation Accountability and Learning (MEAL) Officer to join us and be an integral member of the Learning Team. Working closely with other Global Academy teams and the Academy Centres, you will support the MEAL and knowledge efforts throughout the Academy.

The mission of the Humanitarian Leadership Academy is to enable people around the world to prepare for and respond to crises in their own countries. The Academy works with the humanitarian sector and new partners from the technology industry, private sector and universities to help communities become more resilient in the face of disaster and give them the training and skills to respond to crises in their own countries.

As MEAL Officer you will support Academy Centres on mainstreaming MEAL functions, both remotely and in-person, with a focus on reporting and data gathering/validation. Reporting to the Global Meal Manager, you will work with the Global Learning Team to build, document and disseminate learning around core products, processes and approaches, ensuring we continually learn and adapt our approach to best meet internal and external needs. In addition you will:

  • Work with the Communications team to ensure the delivery of robust internal and external communications that profiles existing learning products and promotes the sharing of capacity building expertise and knowledge across Academy Centres
  • Support the MEAL Manager on management, scoping and research partner identification to meet objectives of the knowledge and innovation pillars of the Core Strategy
  • Work with the MEAL Manager to develop and manage systems to record key data on humanitarian learning activities and the contextualisation of tools, systems and templates to ensure effective monitoring and measurement of humanitarian learning activities
  • Work with the MEAL Manager and operations team to document and report critical internal learning on Academy operations, setting up and utilising platforms and mechanisms that allow for regular input/feedback.

To be successful you will have outstanding written and verbal communication skills with the ability to research, analyse and communicate highly technical MEAL reporting to diverse technical and non-technical audiences. Flexible and adaptable, you will have the ability to manage financial information relating to project budgets, query inaccuracies and present the information in an understandable and approachable way. In addition you will have:

  • Strong evidenced project management experience with the ability to manage various project strands simultaneously
  • A comprehensive understanding of monitoring and evaluating theory and practice including data monitoring, reporting, evaluation and impact assessment with related academic credentials
  • Strong inter-personal and relationship building skills
  • A hands-on, initiative-led approach with confidence and intellect to challenge conventional thinking and ways of working
  • Substantial levels of personal resilience and a willingness to operate in a highly complex and fast paced environment.

Knowledge of French and/or Arabic is desirable.
