Security Consultant - Mali

Expected Duration – 10 days in total

Start Date – immediate (latest mid-September 2014)

About MAG

MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Mali programme:

Since the conflict began in 2012, Mali has been contaminated by unexploded ordnance and small arms. MAG has been working in Mali since 2013, working to reduce the risk of death and injury to local populations posed by remnants of war, through the delivery of risk education to local populations in northern Mali. MAG also provides awareness training to humanitarian personnel, civil servants and partner organisations, who are either working with IDPs or in contaminated areas.

About the role:

MAG is seeking a Security Consultant to carry out a 10 day assessment of the safety and security situation in Mali, which will enable MAG to make informed decisions about our operations. The Security Consultant will be expected to provide expert advice, guidance and recommendations to MAG HQ regarding the Mali context.

About you:

You will have considerable experience in security planning and implementation, preferably gained in the context of relief operations in insecure areas. Any previous experience in Mali or the region would be an advantage. French language skills are also highly desirable. You will need to be available by mid-September latest and able to travel at short notice.
