We are looking for a Senior Humanitarian WASH Advisor to lead the Humanitarian WASH Team at Save the Children and ensure the delivery of high quality, timely and accountable humanitarian WASH responses, globally.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Senior Humanitarian WASH Advisor you will represent the WASH sector and Save UK on the steering group of the Health and Nutrition Global Initiative. You will maintain an overview of WASH-related issues affecting children in humanitarian contexts. Monitoring trends in the external environment and providing input to organisation strategy and planning processes you will also:

  • Conduct evaluations in humanitarian contexts, often at short-term notice
  • Provide common frameworks and guidance to country programmes to ensure high quality operations and advocacy in humanitarian contexts
  • Put in place processes to monitor adherence
  • Supervise, mentor and support the professional development of a team (four humanitarian WASH advisors and six HSTs), providing professional support to senior WASH staff working in humanitarian contexts
  • Oversee recruiting and interviewing new WASH staff on behalf of SCUK and the emergency health unit
  • Represent Save the Children UK at external coordination forums including the WASH cluster and Environmental Health Forum.

To be successful you will have substantial experience of delivering high quality WASH operational responses at a senior level in a range of different contexts. You will have an academic qualification in WASH engineering, Public Health or another relevant subject. In addition you will have:

  • Specific demonstrated experience and commitment to Hygiene Promotion programming
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams that are working in stressful circumstances
  • Strong communications skills appropriate for high level external representation with the ability to tailor communications to different audiences
  • The ability to operate within a predominantly self-servicing environment
  • Experience of capacity-building and mentoring.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
