We’re the UK’s biggest high street retailer in second-hand books and the third biggest bookseller in the UK. We’re a brand people trust and a business that’s doing a thriving trade. Our book sales raise around £1.6 million each month. But we don’t see that as corporate profit. We see it as enough to buy 50,000 emergency shelters, safe water for 2.1 million people or 64,000 goats. That’s why we’re a business with a real difference.
The role
Put simply, it’s about helping to turn everything we sell in our bookshops into vital funds for years to come. To achieve that, you’ll work with the Manager to support all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the business, from budgeting and merchandising, right through to the training of staff and volunteers. It’s about making sure everything is geared up to generate as much cash as possible, any potentially valuable books are picked out from amongst the donations we receive and the day-to-day operations run smoothly.
What we’re looking for
Excellent customer service skills are essential and chances are you’ll already be working in retail. Ideally, you’ll also have some experience of working with books. But whatever your background, we’ll expect you to have a commercial outlook and experience of cash handling, together with excellent communication skills and a real ability to engage with people.
