Contract length:2 years

The role

As a key member of the programme implementation and quality team, the post holder takes shared responsibility for the transformation of the West & Central Africa region to a new operating model whilst delivering Save the Children’s strategy within the region. You specifically supports and enables countries in the West & Central Africa Region through:

  • General training and capacity building and support of SCI Country Office (CO) staff for project and country level monitoring including selection and reporting of indicators, Total Reach, Advocacy Measurement Tool, qualitative information for a particular theme. Staff to support will include CO M&E staff, CO Programme Managers, CO Senior Management
  • Support to each SCI Country Office to help them:
    • Meet or exceed the “Management Operating Standards “ for Design, Monitoring and Evaluation
    • Apply the IP Standard Operating Procedures
    • Understand and implement SCI’s Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) priorities and initiatives
    • Demonstrate Outcomes and Impact for Children


Qualifications and experience

  • Substantial training and capacity building experience preferably in large transition environments.
  • Successful track record of implementing simple, effective monitoring systems, including experience in data collection and management.
  • Substantial Monitoring and Evaluation experience, with experience of working within a complex and matrix organisation structure and in both development and emergency contexts.
  • Culturally sensitive, with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
  • Experience of supporting and developing programmatic staff with different backgrounds and expertise.
  • Experience of building personal networks at field and senior levels.
  • Commitment to Save the Children values.
  • Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours in the event of major emergencies.
  • Willingness to travel in developing countries (varying, but expected to be 50-80% of time).
  • A degree in a relevant field either in relation to monitoring and evaluation (e.g. in knowledge management, evaluation, etc) or in one or more of Save the children’s thematic areas (e.g. education, public health, nutrition, child protection, HIV/AIDS, child rights and emergency response) is considered a plus.
