Role overview
Myanmar is slowly opening up to the outside world after an extended period of isolation. The role provides an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the reduction of maternal and infant mortality rates in the country, which are some of the highest in Asia. You wil provide clinical training to in-service MWs and AMWs including ante-natal care, basic emergency obstetric care including delivery, post natal care, essential newborn care, immunization and nutrition for mother and children; according to national service delivery guidelines, with an emphasis on client-centered approaches and quality assurance.

• Provide mentoring support to midwives in clinical settings to improve the midwifery service.
• Build the strengths and capacity of MWs on, supervision and assessment of competencies AMWs.
• To act as a role model and advocate for respectful and dignified care.
• To mentor staff to adopt best practices in complete mother-child health care, including lactation, birth spacing and family planning, even at community level.
• Provide coaching and feedback to encourage individual learning and reflection on their daily service delivery.
• To maintain excellent communication with partner organization team, take direction from partner organization managers, and alert them to challenges in clinical practice and jointly plan approaches to tackle these.

Skills, qualifications and experience required
An ideal candidate will have ALL of the qualities below, but we anticipate appointing candidates who may not have all- but will have a strong clinical background, some relevant work experience and- most importantly- teaching / coaching experience in the health sector.

Qualifications either as a midwife OR an advanced degree and advanced clinical background (non-midwifery), such as an experienced nurse or doctor

Essential:
• At least 7 years work experience in reproductive and maternal and child health clinical setting with progressively increasing responsibilities
• Prior training experience; excellent classroom and clinical training skills including participatory and experiential methods
• Current knowledge in the field of maternal and child health, including some or all of the following: infection prevention, antenatal care, birth spacing, essential and emergency maternal and newborn care, nutrition etc.
• Solid communication, presentation and writing skills
• Demonstrated self-management (i.e. motivation, dealing with pressure, adaptability)
• Willingness to live outside of Yangon and work in a rural or semi-rural district

Desirable:
• Knowledge of strategic planning, training program development, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation.
• Myanmar Language (failing which a translator will be provided).
• Previous developing country work experience
