Job Details:
Organisation: Concern Worldwide
Deadline Fri, 8 Aug 2014
Job type: Contract
Location:
Zambia
Concern Worldwide has been working in Zambia since 2003 implementing livelihoods, HIV and AIDS and nutrition programmes with a range of partners from both government and civil society. Current programmes include:
- The Integrated Poverty Reduction and Women Empowerment Programme (IPRWEP)
- The Conservation Agriculture Project (CA)
- The Realigning Agriculture to Improve Nutrition Project (RAIN)
First steps have been made to identify a common advocacy theme across all the Concern Zambia programmes and projects, linked to the need for agricultural extension workers to be promoting conservation agriculture that is nutrition and gender sensitive. However, there is still much work to do in order to develop this into an advocacy strategy. Senior staff and technical coordinators do a lot of advocacy work through their interactions, invitations to present and other promotion of Concern’s work and Concern’s work has a high profile in the local media . However, the term advocacy in Zambia is often used in a very broad sense whereby a meeting with a stakeholder can be described as advocacy. There is no clear articulation in the advocacy work of Concern Zambia in terms of clear advocacy objectives, targets and strategies. As a result, Concern Zambia is looking for support to develop one cross-organisational advocacy strategy.
We are currently seeking a consultant to work with Concern Zambia staff to improve advocacy strategy planning and delivery in order to scale up national influencing of the Government of Zambia in two thematic areas;
- Nutrition and gender sensitive agricultural extension.
- Canal clearing and management in the Barotse floodplain
Specific objectives:
- To facilitate a four-day advocacy strategy workshop for key Concern staff and stakeholders on the theme of nutrition and gender sensitive agricultural extension.
- To identify immediate next steps and roles and responsibilities to support Concern Zambia to draft and finalize a cross office advocacy strategy based on the advocacy strategy workshop content.
Consultancy timeframe
The job will cover 3-4 days in September or the first week of October (2014) and the workshop to be held in Lusaka.
