CARE is seeking a Gender and Livelihoods Technical Advisor that will leads CARE`s work globally in this important area and has the overall goal of ensuring that households, women, and girls/children realise just and sustainable food and nutrition security. The TA for Gender will initially concentrate his/her effort on CARE`s flagship Pathways program (carepathwaystoempowerment.org), an anchor initiative under the FNS portfolio, which seeks to empower poor women smallholder farmers and to increase their productivity in more equitable agricultural systems at scale across six countries. S/he will also provide critical technical support to other strategic programs across the FNS unit; a level of effort that will likely increase over time.


Primary Responsibilities:
• Provide direct technical assistance and guidance to the Pathways Program Countries and to other strategically-important Country, Regional and Global long-term projects and programs that contribute to the Food and Nutritional Security of CARE’s identified impact groups.
• Provide gender expertise, guidance, and technical support to ensure CARE`s gender principles and practices are reflected and practiced in FNS programs. Support the development of tools, systems, processes and approaches that continuously improve technical excellence and impact in the area of transformative approaches to gender and women`s empowerment. 
• Contribute to the research, learning and advocacy themes prioritized by the FNS Unit through the projects and programs s/he supports as well as from his/her own research experience and knowledge and learning.
• Support resource mobilization efforts to advance the programs objectives and CARE`s work in the area of Food and Nutrition Security.


Primary Skills:
• Bachelor degree in International Development - in the field of women`s/gender studies, Economics, Business Administration, Agribusiness Development, Anthropology, Sociology, or a related
• Master’s degree in International Development - in the field of women`s/gender studies, Economics, Business Administration, Agribusiness Development, Anthropology, Sociology, or a related
• 3 to 5 years’ experience in international gender programming, or related field
• Demonstrated ability to conduct gender analysis and apply findings
• Demonstrated capacity to facilitate trainings and learning on gender discrimination and women’s empowerment (or other social justice issues)
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse teams and effectively communicate new or sensitive topics
• Overseas work experience
• Demonstrated ability to design and adapt program approaches that promote gender transformative programming and support women`s empowerment in diverse cultural contexts
• Experience in inspiring and supporting colleagues to integrate gender into their work
• 7-10 years’ experience in international development or related field
• Experience working with adolescent girls
• French, or Swahili language proficiency
• Knowledge of a language beyond French (Spanish, Portuguese, Swahili, Arabic)
• Experience integrating gender into agriculture, food security, livelihoods, and market engagement
• Background in facilitation and training skills
• Gender analysis and application in program implementation (including advocacy)
• Constructive engagement of men and boys, or synchronized gender strategies
• Facilitating and supporting gender integration within agriculture, nutrition, economic development and food security programming
• Training design and implementation experience for adult learners
• Excellent verbal and written English skills, particularly communication and presentation skills for diverse audiences including conducting training events for adults and professional
• Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet software, and data processing
• Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and operationalize program strategies
• Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and working with various types of stakeholders, including academics and other development organizations
• Some experience in sustainable agriculture, nutrition and climate change adaptation
