We are seeking an experienced Policy Adviser to lead on our policy and research to support the organisation’s priority work on child survival and the right to health.

Our new global campaign, Every Last Child, aims to make sure millions of the world’s forgotten children are able to get life-saving healthcare and to go to school over the next three years. As Policy Advisor you will develop and lead high quality policy and research on health financing, health systems and Universal Health Coverage, especially for influencing global and national processes and discussions. Your responsibilities will include:

  • To develop and lead high quality policy and research on health financing, health systems and Universal Health Coverage, especially for influencing global and national processes and discussions
  • To work with colleagues to develop the organisation’s analysis, research, policy and advocacy on tax and financing for development (FFD), supporting the Every Last Child campaign and influencing the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals
  • To develop research partnerships in health, in collaboration with the head of research and other policy and research colleagues, that enable us to generate new and original policy insights
  • Support and guide regional offices and country offices in ensuring appropriate and effective national influencing, including policy and research advice
  • To develop and deliver advocacy strategies to influence relevant stakeholders and achieve policy changes at global and national level
  • To monitor trends in the external environment, identifying opportunities to promote our objectives
  • To represent Save the Children externally, including at high level meetings and through cross-organisational working groups and civil society networks
  • To carry out the responsibilities of the role in a way which reflects Save the Children's commitment to safeguarding children in accordance with the Child Safeguarding Policy
  • A commitment to Save the Children’s vision, mission, values and approach.

To be successful you will have a significant track record of policy analysis, advocacy and research in global health, with a proven interest and focus on health financing, Universal Health Coverage and/or child health. In addition you will have:

  • Knowledge and experience of research, analysis and policy related to public financing in developing countries
  • An ability to link research and policy debates, and communicate effectively with a variety of non-specialist audiences
  • Strong writing skills, with a proven ability to produce high quality reports and briefings against a timeline
  • A proven ability to establish and maintain a network of policy and research relationships in global health, and to harness these relationships to achieve policy change
  • Experience of effective team work and outstanding inter-personal communication skills
  • The ability to operate within an administratively self-servicing environment
  • A willingness to travel to remote and occasionally to insecure locations.

An understanding of human/child rights and development, international relations and humanitarian emergency response, and trends in donor policy is desirable.
