THE POSITION

The successful candidate will be responsible for the finance function and for all Board of Trustees matters relating to the Thomson Reuters Foundation and Thomson Reuters Foundation Inc (in the United States) as well as for the finance function of our trading subsidiary Reuters Foundation Consultants Limited. Supported by two staff, the successful candidate will in particular:

  • Contribute to the strategic development of the organization from a financial standpoint advising the CEO on the Foundation increasingly complex finance and investment decisions. They will also ensure that all legal and fiduciary requirements are met in a timely manner
  • Set up and maintain effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements, and manage the preparation of all regular financial statements for budget holders, senior management and Board of Trustees
  • Prepare the annual budget, monthly forecasts and cash flow management. They will also support and have oversight over any budgets prepared across our different programmes in the context often major funding proposals 
  • Will assist the Company Secretary, coordinating all formal reporting for the Board of Trustees meetings in the United Kingdom and the United States
  • Ensure complete operating procedures for all financial controls, including bank reconciliations, cost control, expenses policy and procedures, resolve accounting and financial problems and/or issues and control and review costs 
  • Work with the COO to align financial management with the short and long term fundraising strategy and projections
  • Coordinate all audit activities


THE CANDIDATE

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a strategic thinker with a strong sense of vision and commercial instinct, flexible and innovative and able to work easily on own initiative but also in close conjunction with the CEO and COO
  • Be a Qualified Accountant with extensive experience and knowledge of the charity sector, a leader with the confidence and ability to take responsibility of the finance department, give it clear direction and achieve excellent results. An MBA or other relevant Master’s degrees would be a plus. Financial and governance experience working in organizations with complex structures and registered in both the United Kingdom and the United States would be ideal 
  • Have extensive experience managing staff, with exceptional people management skills to motivate and lead a team that needs to work extremely efficiently to deliver results in a timely manner
  • Have excellent organisational skills and the capacity to manage a high number of projects at any one time ensuring commitments are delivered within budget, on time and in line with expectations 
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate well with people at all levels of seniority and the ability to explain financial matters sympathetically to non-financial personnel and develop their financial understanding
  • Have demonstrated commitment to the social sector with a passion for the organization’s mission is essential
  • Be fluent in English. Additional languages will be a plus
