The Field Coordinator supervises and co-ordinates the program implemented by MDM team in Pyapon township in order to guarantee the objectives of the program are met.

As Field Coordinator you are responsible for the management of the project targeting Pyapon Township (currently 295 villages).

The post holder will perform her / his tasks and responsibilities under supervision of the General Coordinator in Yangon.

For more than 30 years, Médecins du Monde, a campaigning medical organisation committed to international solidarity, has been caring for the most vulnerable populations at home and abroad. It has continued to highlight obstacles that exist in accessing health care and has secured sustainable improvements in health-for-all policies. Those working for this independent organisation do not solely dispense care and treatment but condemn violations of human dignity and rights and fight to improve matters for populations living in precarious situations. MdM currently works in 41 countries across all continents where it focuses on 4 priority areas: caring for the health of migrants and displaced persons, promoting sexual and reproductive health, combating HIV and reducing the harm and risks associated with drug use, crises and conflicts.

The program is being implemented in partnership with the local health authorities, which is rewarding and challenging.

The project includes capacity building for basic health staff, volunteer health workers and village health committees. The project is administrated through UNOPS.

Your main responsabilities:

- Program management: coordination of program planning, financial management and budget follow up on a monthly and biannual basis, implementation and M&E, following project plan and budget in compliance with donor contract and MdM procedures and guidelines.

- Donor negotiations and program adjustments based on review of achievements against targets and MdM objectives and strategy

- Partnership development with local health authorities

- Ensure program (team) is provided with technical support to enforce quality management of activities (support capacity building strategy, engagement technical support partner organizations)

- Strategy development for multi-year program Myanmar with key focus on Mother and Child Health in Delta area, subsequently proposal writing and donor application.

- Liaise with authorities and key partners to ensure adequate coordination and networking

- Security management

- Comply with reporting and accounting agreement and procedures

Contract : Fixed-term contract

Duration : 12 months


Based in Pyapon (office and guesthouse) with regular trips Yangon and Naypyidaw for representation.

Single posting

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in program management in an international context, preferably with focus on public health, community health and MCH.
Independent, analytical, solution oriented, team manager, good writing skills,
Experience in community development would be an advantage.
Experience in partnership development with local authorities
Management skills focusing on capacity building and skills transfer
Ability to work in resource limited and politically sensitive contexts
Willing to work and live in a setting with limited amenities and social life (Pyapon is a small town with few expats and limited leisure opportunities)
Reactivity, anticipation, adaptability, capacity to take initiatives
Organisation skills, rigor
Patience and understanding
Ability to live in a small town (2 hour drive from Yangon, 6 months of heavy rains, long boat trips for supervision of activities)

Languages: fluent in English
