The sub-region is an area of instability, marked by 14 years of civil war in Liberia, the post-electoral crisis of 2010 in Cote d’Ivoire and the recent political troubles in Guinea. Despite a gradual normalization of the political situation in these three countries, numerous challenges to consolidate the peace and stability remain.
