TrustLaw

TrustLaw is the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono program. Our mission is to spread the practice of pro bono worldwide to drive social change. We help high-impact NGOs and social enterprises to grow, streamline their operations and navigate complex laws and regulations by connecting them with free legal assistance from the best law firms around the world. We also deliver groundbreaking legal research on key social and policy issues that our members use to support their advocacy and law reform efforts.

Launched in 2010, TrustLaw has grown to include over 3,000 members in 170 countries, including over 580 law firms and in-house legal teams and over 2,600 NGO and social enterprise members.

The Foundation is recruiting a Head of Programmes, TrustLaw. The position would be based in London in Thomson Reuters’ Canary Wharf office.

Job Summary

TrustLaw is looking for a Head of Programmes to help grow our global pro bono service, streamline our operations and innovate in the way we partner and engage with both our legal, NGO and social enterprise members to increase our impact. As a key member of TrustLaw’s senior management team, the Head of Programmes will help build our strategy and manage a team to ensure key objectives are achieved.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, organised and passionate leader, with excellent knowledge of the international development space and experience building and managing relationships with different stakeholders and overseeing key operations.

Reporting to the Director of TrustLaw, the successful candidate will work closely with TrustLaw’s team of 20 people across 8 countries.

The role is a fixed term maternity cover contract (9-12 months), with potential for a permanent position at the conclusion of the contract.  

Responsibilities

  • Working with TrustLaw’s management team to define and implement a strategy with clear team objectives, outputs and measurable targets and supporting the team to devise regional strategies that feed into this.
  • Expanding and engaging the TrustLaw membership, ensuring we are constantly innovating in the way we partner with key NGOs, social enterprises and law firms.
  • Overseeing cross-border research programmes that address the most critical social and policy issues facing our NGO and social enterprise members.
  • Overseeing global standards for the recruitment, vetting and relationship management of our NGO and social enterprise network and supporting the team to adapt these standards to local circumstances.
  • Leading innovative practices to ensure our systems and processes are as user-friendly and efficient as possible.
  • Cultivating a high-performing, healthy team ethic, with strong communication and an environment that encourages continual learning.
  • Managing a multi-functional global team to ensure quality and growth metrics are met.
  • Representing the Foundation at major events and presenting TrustLaw to a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Managing key relationships across the world to build our reputation and relevance in the social impact and pro bono space. 
  • Overseeing TrustLaw’s public facing communications and global membership engagement.

Key skills and experience

  • Extensive experience in the international development sector and an understanding of how it operates at local, regional and international levels.
  • Understanding and interest in social and policy issues, and of how they interact with legal frameworks.
  • Proven organisational and project management skills and experience of managing competing priorities in a fast paced environment.
  • A leader with strong people management skills and experience working with teams across different time-zones and cultures.
  • Experience working with a diverse range of stakeholders, from leaders in the international development sector to senior corporate executives and partners of top law firms, as well as social entrepreneurs, NGOs and other beneficiaries of our services.
  • Degree in the field of social change, policy management, development or law.
  • An exceptional communicator with strong writing skills and extensive public speaking experience.
  • A creative quick thinker who is also a highly motivated self-starter, with an ability to work independently and contribute ideas to the team.
  • Experience in Salesforce would be favorable.
  • Fluent in English, other languages highly desirable.
  • Will have the right to work in the UK and be willing to travel internationally.
