The role

The program will focus on strengthening the health systems at national, district and sub-district levels. The goal of the program is to assist Bangladesh Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOH&FW) to scale up evidence-based, high-impact maternal, newborn, family planning and nutrition interventions in contribution to significant reductions in maternal and child mortality and progress toward MDG 4 and 5 goals in Bangladesh.

The Senior Advisor will work with the Chief of Party and other senior team members to forge global and in-country partnerships with local service providers (public, private and NGO), and all levels of government decision makers. S/he will provide essential management support to the project, which includes working with all stakeholders to develop project work plans and budgets through extensive consultations, ensure timely completion of deliverables, facilitate coordination among thematic teams, and support program learning and dissemination efforts.

The role holder will provide input to the strategic and operational plan for the project as well as supervision and mentoring support to direct reports. He/she will provide information to his/her Manager or to other Senior Advisors so that they can make accurate decisions. He/she will build effective relationships with peers and managers and maintains cordial working relations with all project staff, partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications and experience

Essential

  • At least 7 (seven) years of overall experience in managing international public health programs
  • Superior writing skills, including expertise in writing scientific documents, manuscripts and documents for publication
  • Experience in the development of detailed implementation plans and budgets
  • Proven leadership skills and expertise in strategic program planning, implementation and management
  • Ability to build capacity and collaboration between governmental and non-governmental partners and other project implementers
  • Experience in designing, analyzing, editing and presenting data for donor reporting and presentations
  • Excellent oral presentation skills
  • Willingness to conduct frequent field trips to districts and communities. About 30 percent of the time will be required for field travel.

Desirable

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, International Development, Management, or an advanced degree in a health management related discipline
  • Expertise in multiple technical areas is highly desired, such as maternal, newborn child health, nutrition
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a large-scale, complex program, work collaboratively across technical disciplines and implement according to plans

  • Ability to work effectively with others.
