Marie Stopes International is recruiting for a Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst

The Monitoring and Evaluation Analyst is responsible for supporting analysis and synthesis of client and health service data to ensure MSI services are accessible, equitable, high quality and efficient. The role will involve analysing and disseminating information from MSI’s routine data sources, and include coordinating the annual client exit interviews conducted by our country programmes, combining M&E, research and MIS data to evaluate impact of our family planning and safe abortion programmes and communicating the results to decision makers across the organisation.

We are looking for a data-savvy candidate with creativity and curiosity to investigate and communicate the stories that lie behind the data. You should have a Master’s degree in statistics or equivalent in public health, international development or other related discipline with a strong quantitative background. You are comfortable analysing complex data sets and formulating recommendations for action, including for non-research audiences. Please refer to the Job Framework for further details.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Support MSI's corporate priority of reaching the under-served and delivering high impact contraceptive years of protection (CYPs) through the implementation, analysis and dissemination of the standardised client exit Interview survey (ca. 18,000 interviews across 29 countries). Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate the design and rollout of standardised Client Exit Interviews across MSI
  • Support country programmes in the correct use of Epi Data and SPSS for analysis of client data
  • Support country programmes in the interpretation, dissemination and use of data to expand the reach of under-served and high impact client groups
  • Lead on regional and MSI-wide trend analysis of client data, including high impact CYPs calculation in accordance with MSI metrics, for decision making on global performance
  • Present and share findings in formats that cater to decision makers in the international programmes department, the medical development and the marketing team
  • Update the Client Exit Interview Dashboard in excel using VBA / macros
  • Support programmes to collect more continuous information on client experience through a quarterly mini-exit interview.

2. Analyse and synthesise information from MSI’s routine data sources: Combine data from monitoring and evaluation (M&E), research and MSI’s MIS (Management Information Systems) to assess whether comprehensive family planning and safe abortion programmes are efficient, high quality, accessible and equitable. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

•    Combine and compare data from exit interview surveys and client-based MIS (CLIC)

•    Advise on implications of MSI’s transition from visit-based service delivery data and indicators to longitudinal client-based data and indicators on monitoring our service delivery activity

•    Increase value of existing data sources by conducting in depth analysis to extend knowledge and inform programmatic learning about global, regional and annual trends, achievements of each service delivery model and understanding of clients, service provider performance and service quality.

•    Support the design and implementation of MSI’s routine client experience and satisfaction feedback mechanisms, including a review of the client snapshot.

•    Design and advise on MSI’s new routine poverty metric.

3. Support the Health Systems Department and MSI teams with accessible data by presenting and sharing findings in formats that cater to decision makers across the organisation. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to ensuring that:

•    client level data is used by global marketing team for marketing strategy

•    high impact CYPs are used by regional directors and the international programmes department for programme management

•    client level and performance data are used by the new business development team in proposals

•    health service delivery data (cost and quality) are being used by internal stakeholders for programme innovation and management Support the Health Systems Department and MSI teams with accessible data by presenting and sharing findings from exit interviews and other research / MIS projects in formats  and forums that cater to decision makers across the organisation. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to ensuring that:

•    New formats and forums are developed to share M&E and research data more effectively and in a tailored manor with other MSI teams, including the Global Marketing Team, the channel leads, the International Programmes Department and New Business Development team.

•    Disseminate exit interview results and information from other routine data sources to ensure that they are understood and used effectively to by the following teams:

-        the  global marketing team for marketing strategy

-        the international programmes department for programme management

-        the new business development team in proposals

-        country programme teams for programme management and research planning

-        channel leads for strategic decision making

-        other research and M&E colleagues in London and in the country programmes

Other duties include:

•    Add to and update the document library of global M&E guidance; publish and disseminate lessons learned from best practice in M&E, internally and externally

•    Collaborate or lead on research briefs (MSI-reviewed) and internal communication

•    Support with data analysis for peer-reviewed publications and conference submissions

•    Carry out other duties as and when they arise

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

1. Qualifications:

•   Master Degree in statistics or equivalent in public health, international development or other related discipline with a strong quantitative, statistical and analytical focus (essential)

•   Recognised qualification in research methods, especially quantitative data analysis methods (essential)

•   Excellent communication skills through verbal, written and remote communication methods (essential)

•   Quantitative research skills, including SPSS, STATA and EpiData knowledge (essential)

•   Knowledge of using macros / VBA in excel (highly desirable)

•   French language skills (desirable)

2. Experience:

•    Proven experience in analysing complex data sets and formulating recommendations for action, including for non-research audiences (essential)

•    Experience in writing and editing documents/papers for various audiences, such as programme managers, policy makers or academics (essential)

•    Experience in comparing complex datasets and triangulating data from various sources (essential)

•    Experience of developing dashboards and use of advanced data presentation techniques (desirable)

•    Proven experience working cross culturally and supporting remote teams (desirable)

•    Experience within family planning and reproductive health (desirable)
