About 350.org

350.org is building a global grassroots movement to solve the climate crisis. Our online campaigns, grassroots organizing, and mass public actions are led from the bottom up by thousands of volunteer organizers in over 188 countries. 350.org works hard to organize in a new way—everywhere at once, using online tools to facilitate strategic offline action. We want to be a laboratory for the best ways to strengthen the climate movement and catalyze transformation around the world.

About the France Communications Coordinator position

As France communications coordinator you would work directly with 350.org’s communications team to help craft and implement a communications plan in the lead up to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) conference taking place in Paris end of this year. Numerous mobilisations are planned in France, in the lead up and during the conference, and would require communications support whether through social media channels or media outreach. We also recently launched a divestment campaign in France and would require the communications coordinator to also engage with and support this area of work.

We are looking for someone who can handle press for large mobilisations, train spokespeople to give media interviews, generate content for social media and also editorials for publication. Often times media campaigns will be carried out in close coordination with partner organisations. This will be a fast paced environment requiring a multitude of varying tasks to be carried out, often simultaneously, consequently we need someone who is driven, creative, passionate about storytelling and able to keep calm in chaotic circumstances. If you’re looking for a 9-5pm desk-job and a set routine, this isn’t a position for you.

Required Qualifications

  • Be based in Paris, France.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in communications and/or media relations
  • An exceptional communicator in French, while fluent in English
  • A fast and talented writer; an excellent storyteller that is able to find and highlight compelling narratives
  • A people-person who can build relationships with members of the press and the 350.org staff and volunteer network.
  • An understanding of the media landscape in France, including key publications and outlets for environmental and climate change related news.
  • Good knowledge of climate and environmental issues.
  • Have a strong knowledge of social and environmental politics in France and the groups and players involved
  • Willingness to be available non-traditional hours as needed to ensure results.
  • Comfortable being interviewed on TV, Radio, in print, etc.
  • Strong email communication, comfort working remotely with colleagues via skype, conference calls, and other online tools as needed.

Bonuses (we expect a successful applicant to have at least 2 to 3 of these)

  • Experience and competency working in multicultural groups
  • Experience with diverse organizing communities (i.e. experience with labour organizing, frontline community support, etc..)
  • Experience leading communications trainings and coaching spokespeople and media liaisons
  • Familiarity with running PR and communications for large-scale events or protests
  • Experience with video production and photography
  • Editorial experience
  • Track record of published articles, blogs, etc..
  • Previous on-air experience
