Save the Children is recruiting a UN Partnership Manager to further strengthen and build Save the Children’s broad-ranging partnership with UN agencies, with UNICEF and UN OCHA being our key institutional partners. This role will also be responsible for development of and maintaining solid relationships with other UN agencies (UNFPA, FAO, WHO, UNDP, UNOPS, IOM). This position is based in London.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our UK and Global Programmes department delivers humanitarian and development programmes, builds partnerships with institutional donors – including governments, multi-laterals and trusts – and drives lasting change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As the UN Partnership Manager, you will lead the team of two UN Account Managers and will be at the forefront of building our relations with UN. You will make sure that we capitalise on funding opportunities that are consistent with our strategic and thematic priorities to deliver change for children. You will also lead our engagement in efforts to inform and influence policies and investment priorities. In addition, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting vision and strategic direction to the organisation, and wider movement influencing a complex global network of internal and external stakeholders (including at the most senior levels) to optimise our engagement with the UN.
  • Strengthening, developing, and optimising both existing and new partnership opportunities across the global movement.
  • Developing and pro-actively driving both Save the Children’s overall UN strategy and strategies for each partnership opportunity.
  • As a senior member of the PD Team and a senior staff member in the organisation, and movement, contribute to the development of the wider strategic agenda, lead on cross departmental/divisional projects and deputise for the Head of Partnership Development, as required.

To be successful you will have a good understanding of and significant experience within the UN system funds and programmes in field/regional and/or HQ levels as well as a proven track record in partnership building, brokering with donors and donor coordination. A committed team player and a strong manager, you will also have:

  • Significant experience in leading partnerships, ideally at both field and headquarter levels.
  • Thorough understanding of international development issues, including in complex environments.
  • A strong network and working relationships with UNICEF and UN OCHA staff, especially at HQ and Regional levels.
  • Strong leadership behaviours, including external orientation, situational agility, customer focus, delivery of results, communicating strategic vision and purpose
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively at a high level and with a range of appropriate styles for different audiences including implementers, policy makers, legislators, and media
  • Proven ability to build strong collaborative networks, externally and internally
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with fluent written and spoken English.
  • The ability and willingness to travel.

At Save the Children our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
