Oxfam in Yemen:

 

Oxfam is one of the largest humanitarian organisations providing support in Yemen and successfully established 4 field offices, in Amran, Hajja, Aden and Taiz. These areas host most of the IDPs and at the same time humanitarian needs in food security and WASH are high in these locations. Oxfam currently has over 200 national staff working in Yemen and about 25 international staff. The country team also draws on substantial support from Oxfam’s regional and global offices and resources.  Oxfam has provided support to the Yemeni population for 32 years and since the conflict escalation in March 2015, has directly supported in excess of 850,000 people. Additionally, Oxfam is actively engaged in advocacy, protection and gender programming.  The Organisation wishes to consolidate and expand its established programme activities in EFSVL, WaSH, Gender and Protection, setting a target of over 1.2 million beneficiaries over the next two years. 

 

The Role

 

We are looking for a  highly skilled, self-motivated and resourceful gender expert with practical experience of gender justice programmes in an international development context and a track record in humanitarian and conflict context. As a Gender Co-ordinator, you will provide management support and leadership to ensure women’s rights are at the heart of Oxfam’s humanitarian response strategy and, Oxfam’s long term gender justice strategy is relevant and adapted to a conflict/post conflict context.  You will develop and maintain a clear vision for gender mainstreaming and stand alone Gender Justice programming that links to country programme strategy, regional strategy and contributes to Oxfam’s global objectives.  You will  provide technical advice to ensure Oxfam’s Minimum Standards on Gender in Emergencies are applied during the emergency response, and that other international standards on Gender and Gender Based Violence are incorporated when planning and responding to the needs of men, women, boys and girls, among other things. You will, in addition, inspire, mentor and support programme staff in Yemen to understand the different needs of women, men, boys and girls, promote safe programming, and have long-term impact on women’s rights in a challenging context. 

 

To be able to effectively do this job, you will have an in-depth knowledge of the factors driving gender inequalities in different contexts; you will have strong analytical skills and be able to think strategically; be flexible and results driven and capable of leading, motivating and mentoring others; strong understanding and demonstrable experience in designing and managing complex projects preferably in gender development, protection or women’s rights in complex/fragile states; proven skills in financial management of complex budgets as well as donor contract management; experience of working with local civil society organisations, INGOs and UN in complex environments, among others.
