Do you want to be part of an organisation that fights for children every single day? We are looking for a Head of Safeguarding Operations to play a key role delivering our Safeguarding objectives.

At Save the Children, we fight for children every single day and in our Support Services department we provide leadership and direction in the business of running an efficient organisation. We ensure our resources are used to maximum effect. We go the extra mile - and we don’t rest until the work is done.

As Head of Safeguarding Operations, you will lead the work to embed learning, prevent harm and ensure that we do all we can to meet our obligations to be accountable to children and vulnerable people. You will ensure the effectiveness of processes for responding to concerns about the welfare of children received from staff, representatives of Save the Children and members of the public. In addition you will:

  • Maintain a programme of assurance to ensure that standards of safeguarding are maintained across all directly delivered programmes and activities
  • Develop and implement a programme of support and assurance for partners, to ensure that suitable safeguarding arrangements are in place across all Save the Children’s programmes and activities;
  • Provide leadership support to the safer recruitment process to ensure that all those appointed to act on Save the Children’s behalf are suitable to work with children
  • Deploy globally to support partners in the investigation of safeguarding breaches or act as a tactical advisor to those conducting such investigations.

To be successful you will have a relevant qualification in a safeguarding related field and/or extensive professional training/experience in preventing, detecting, and responding to sexual abuse and exploitation. You should also have substantial experience of managing staff engaging in safeguarding casework, preferably with a focus on child safeguarding or working in vulnerable communities. In addition you will have:

  • Extensive experience of safeguarding case work, liaison with statutory partners and the management of organizational responses
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of safeguarding in varied settings, preferably with experience of working in/adapting to differing legal jurisdictions;
  • Proven experience of investigating child abuse or other areas of sexual misconduct
  • Proven record of accomplishment of strategy development and implementation
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including experience of training or public speaking.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

If you share our belief in the power of children, join the fight. It takes relentless determination, creativity and a real commitment to real change. Because every child should be able to make their mark on their world, and help to build a better future. We look forward to hearing from you.
