Role and Responsibilities
Focused on field based security, the Security Advisor will lead the organisation’s strategic understanding and management of security and security-related risks, allowing Medair to remain operational in increasingly complex and insecure environments, while positioning Medair as an organisation of choice for staff and institutional donors in the area of security management.
Develop and maintain strategy, policies and procedures for on-going security management and for dealing with crisis situations where Medair staff or assets are in immediate danger, or the reputation of Medair is seriously threatened. Enhance security of Medair staff through appropriate briefing, training, and support of individual staff members. Engage in strategic networking in order to profit from information / skill / tool sharing and to contribute to sector learning.

Medair Headquarters (HQ) provides operational guidance for country programmes and activities, along with both technical and compassionate support for our relief workers. Within our headquarters, we are also responsible for promoting the work of Medair to the world, to raise and manage the funds needed to run our life-saving and sustaining programmes. Strategy, Policy and Procedure Development

Review and revise Medair’s 3-year security risk management strategy.

Lead and coordinate the development and maintenance of organisation wide security related policies and procedures, and advise on on-going security issues.

Auditing and Monitoring

Review and approve country level security planning, including Security Location Plans and Crisis Management Team set-up (as defined in the minimum standards) for all Medair field locations.

Security Location Plans and Field Crisis Management plans – technical approval.

Field audits (internal and external); Analysis (data, trend and context).

Quarterly security risk report to International Director.

Provide up-to-date security risk analysis and recommendations, including a quarterly security risk report to the International Director, through the gathering of security incident data, context analysis and networking with relevant networks.
Training and Briefing

Deliver security-related content for all Medair staff pre-deployment training and briefing at HQ, as well as the oversight of all field-based security briefing.

Including the Relief Orientation Course, HQ Briefing, Crisis Management Team, “BOB” Security Phone.
