We are looking for an experienced and influential individual to join us as a Sub-National Health Cluster Co-ordinator. Save the Children’s Humanitarian Public Health team works in close collaboration with WHO to support the coordination of health response. Working closely with government systems and communities, as well as partners and other sectors, we relieve suffering and save lives in humanitarian emergencies, while advancing the well-being and dignity of affected populations.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Sub-National Health Cluster Coordinator you will be deployed for approximately 60% of the time. When deployed, you will facilitate a timely and effective health response and ensure that the capacity of national and local institutions is strengthened in order to respond to and coordinate emergency health interventions. When you are not deployed, you will spend time working on specific activities in the Global Health Cluster work plan. In addition you will also:

  • Manage and coordinate within the Health Cluster or at Inter-cluster level for rapid health needs assessments as well as participatory assessments
  • Ensure appropriate coordination between all health humanitarian partners as well as national authorities and local structures
  • Identify urgent training needs in relation to technical standards and protocols for the delivery of key health services to ensure their adoptions and uniform application by all health cluster partners
  • Support the adaptation and implementation of an Indicators’ Monitoring Framework to ensure adequate implementation of the Health Cluster Plans
  • Identify technical gaps and training needs to implement the health cluster response and develop a plan for capacity building in collaboration with partners.

To be successful you will have extensive international field experience, including managing and coordinating health programmes in humanitarian contexts. A Health professional with a Masters in public health or epidemiology or equivalent field experience, you will have an in-depth knowledge of emergency relief policies and practices within the UN, other UN Specialised Agencies, donor agencies and national and international NGOs. In addition you will have:

  • Sound knowledge and experience about disaster prevention and preparedness programmes
  • Knowledge of the Cluster approach guidelines and terms of reference (and knowledge of how to apply them)
  • Previous experience at leadership level of large health programmes within an NGO or the United Nations
  • Computer literacy and excellent report writing skills
  • A proven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic level.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
