Based in London, Salary: £43,000-£46,000

As Senior Social Protection Advisor you will be directly responsible for shaping and delivering Save the Children’s strategy on social protection, including enhancing how our work in this area achieves outcomes for children. You will provide technical support to the design and implementation of social protection programmes, with a particular focus on child-sensitive and shock-responsive programmes. You will also collaborate actively with each thematic team to ensure coherence and effectiveness of social protection. In addition you will support high-quality country office strategic and thematic planning. In addition you will:

  • Engage directly with donors as required, presenting approaches, concept notes and funding proposals
  • Contribute to the development of programme advocacy strategies and support the delivery of strategic advocacy to government, donors and other key stakeholders in social protection
  • Promote the sharing of good practices, global tools and learning about child-sensitive social protection programmes among country offices, and other interested stakeholders
  • Develop and document effective approaches to advance child-sensitive social protection based on available evidence and design.

To be successful you will possess an internationally recognised qualification in social development. A thorough practical and theoretical understanding of social protection, in a range of settings, and how it can be leveraged to enhance progress in health, education and protection is also essential as is excellent leadership skills. In addition you will have:

  • A proven ability to provide effective, timely and high-quality technical advice to large-scale, high profile social protection programmes, ensuring delivery of results
  • Demonstrable experience in influencing policies at senior levels of government and influencing bilateral and multilateral donors
  • A proven ability to develop strong external networks including developing effective working relationships with senior stakeholders in government agencies, international organisations, donors, academics and opinion-leaders, including influencing skills
  • Demonstrable people management skills, including building shared objectives, motivation and development
  • A demonstrated ability to build effective working relationships, within and across teams and an ability to influence people at all levels.
