The role
Save the Children in Lebanon intends to identify existing mechanisms within communities which could be built upon and strengthened through future interventions. The purpose of the consultancy is to map out a model for community based child protection mechanisms, including smaller committee groups and wider networks, in both urban and rural settings and development of related tools needed to ensure set-up of these mechanisms.

The role of this person is to produce a final report on:

  • Existing community based children protection mechanisms/models in Lebanon per setting (IS, versus Palestinian camp, urban versus rural etc)
  • Analysis of community practices in Syria, Lebanon and Palestinian communities/ camps to be considered in the set-up/ support of community based of mechanisms
  • Proposition of a model/ models of community based child protection mechanisms for Lebanon
  • Link of models to Child Protection Working Group and sub-task forces on PSS and Case Management

Key deliverables include:

  • Terms of References for the set-up of Community Based Approaches including training needs and links with institutions
  • Community mobilization strategy cross-agency with links to Child Protection Working Group
  • Leadership in multiple national field level inter-agency workshop to revise and endorse models for Lebanon with links to local and national level national institutions


Qualifications and experience

  • Post graduate degree in child/social protection, statistics, social sciences or other related area
  • Demonstrates strong commitment to Save the Children’s Mission, Vision and Values
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in child protection
  • Experience in Community Based Child Protection design and programming
  • Knowledge in child protection issues in protracted emergencies
  • Practical experience with quantitative and qualitative research methodology
  • Strong ability to write and edit public outreach materials, ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral forms
  • Proven skills in communication, networking, strategic thinking and ability to relate to traditionaland social media
  • Strong analytical, presentation and writing skill
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments with competing deadlines. Able to work under pressure and to tight deadlines and capacity to work long hours when required.
  • Independent and self-motivated
  • Strong English skills and Arabic language skills preferred
