EMERGENCIES SYSTEMS AND SURGE CAPACITY OFFICER

£33,664 to £34,682 per annum

Central London, EC1

ActionAid International is a global movement of people working together to further human rights and defeat poverty for all. We are now looking for someone with good project management skills and understanding of surge capacity in humanitarian contexts to join the international humanitarian team and help us to deliver a world without poverty and injustice in which every person enjoys the right to a life with dignity.

As Emergencies Systems & Surge Capacity Officer you will strengthen our ability to respond to emergencies and maintain our readiness and response systems for them.

This will involve recruiting internal members to our Emergency Fast Action Support Team (EFAST) surge roster as well as managing them, handling their deployment and organizing training. In addition you will help develop our capacity building resources and improve capacity by updating materials and incorporating learning.  With your persistence and attention to detail, you will also manage our Disaster Preparedness and Response Fund System work with the International Humanitarian Programme Manager – Operations and Americas to ensure that ActionAid’s preparedness and response systems are fit for purpose.

Experience in a relevant role means you have a good understanding of surge capacity and its needs, and how an organization like ours has to prepare and respond to unexpected humanitarian disasters. Your impressive project management skills show you’re a fantastic organizer who knows how to multi-task, make the right decisions and handle conflicting priorities. Your focus is always on finding the best solution to problems and you use your strong relationship building, negotiation and persuasive abilities to bring these about. You are also extremely committed and conscientious, which means you’re willing to work unsocial hours when necessary, supportive of those around you and pay attention to important details.
