Contract length: 12 months.


The role

As a Child Protection(CP) manager in today’s Yemen, Save the Children expects you to drive our programmes to be as coordinated, efficient and handle-able as possible in a context with rapid onsets of humanitarian emergencies while at same time ensuring programmatic focus is in place for the on-going transitional development for strengthened national child protection systems, currently including rollout of Child Protection in Emergencies (CPiE) and the minimum standards on child protection in humanitarian actions.

Qualifications and experience

  • Substantial experience working in both humanitarian and development contexts.
  • BA plus extensive experience or MA Degree in social sciences, human rights, or related area
  • Experience in managing CP programming, including CPiE.
  • An in-depth understanding of government and inter-agency collaboration related to development of national child protection systems, in particular from countries within the Middle East region.
  • Understanding of social welfare systems and child protection mechanisms, preferably including experience from working with case management system, contextualizing and operationalizing these procedures as well as providing capacity building and continual mentoring.
  • Experience in community-based child protection programming.
  • Commitment to, thorough conceptual understanding of, and ability to train staff in accountability and child participatory methodologies.
  • Ability to operationalise monitoring & evaluation systems in large complex programmes.
  • Demonstrated capacity to deliver on stated objectives, on time and within budget
  • Proven capacity to write clear and well-argued assessments and project reports
  • Knowledge of effective financial and grant management, particularly with SIDA and EU.
  • Proven ability of training, follow-up mentoring and coaching on child protection related topics.
  • Experience working with civil society organizations
  • Demonstrated ability to set up learning and development procedures for a large child protection team.
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent interpersonal communication (both written and oral) and presentation skills
  • Fluency in written and spoken English; Arabic desirable
  • Ability to manage stress, be flexible and accommodating in sometimes difficult working circumstances
  • Ability to maintain consistent high standards of professional behaviour and achievement when working independently and as part of a team.
  • Prior experience with Save the Children strongly desired
  • Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches
