Contract length: 12 months


The role

To ensure the coordinated and consistent delivery of high quality, timely and accountable education programmes across the Syria regional response. This includes specific responsibility to be the Whole of Syria education co-focal point on behalf of Save the Children, working in close coordination with UNICEF (30%), as well as acting as the Save the Children regional No Lost Generation focal point (20%).


Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Substantial experience of working internationally in humanitarian programmes, including education.
  • Previous experience of working in large-scale complex emergency response.
  • Education to MSc/MA/MEng level in a relevant subject or equivalent field of experience.
  • Previous experience of programme management across multiple locations.
  • Commitment to, thorough understanding of, and ability to train staff in participation and accountability approaches.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading assessment activities and of designing, managing, monitoring and evaluating education programmes in emergencies for international NGOs.
  • Experience of applying relevant interagency humanitarian frameworks and standards in education in emergencies (for example INEE Minimum Standards).
  • Demonstrated ability to set up monitoring & evaluation systems in large, complex programmes.
  • Proven ability in facilitation, mentoring and coaching.
  • Experience of senior level representation, including Cluster or Education Sector Working Group coordination.
  • Experience of developing and negotiating successful partnerships with institutional donors.
  • Ability to write/advise on clear and well-argued assessment and project reports.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A high level of written and spoken English.
  • Proven ability to influence change at an operational and strategic level
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact and diplomacy.
  • The capacity and willingness to be flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of Save the Children child focused mandate.

Desirable:

  • Language skills in Arabic
  • Experience of working internationally in humanitarian programmes within child protection
  • Experience or knowledge of working and living in relevant regions/contexts
  • Experience of implementing DFID, OFDA, ECHO, UNICEF, UNHCR and other major donors
  • Experience of designing and managing consortia projects.
