We are looking for two experienced motivated individuals to join our Humanitarian Surge Team (HST) as Nutrition Adviser and play a key part in our humanitarian public health technical unit by helping us to respond effectively to emergencies world-wide.

Our Humanitarian department integrates emergency and development work, through our country programmes. It increases our capacity to meet the assistance and protection needs of children and their families affected by crises. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Nutrition Adviser - HST you will be deployed to the field as the lead adviser in a small to medium-scale emergency or filling a gap for a senior advisory role in a chronic humanitarian country programme. You will lead multi-sector and nutrition assessment, develop programme design, capacity analysis or monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities. In addition you will:

  • Work with the deputy Team Leader – Programmes or Team Leader to develop Nutrition sector response plans and master budgets and contribute to Save the Children’s overall response strategy
  • Prepare and oversee Nutrition programme implementation to ensure quality timely delivery of programme activities
  • Prepare timely programme and donor reports on project activities in compliance with internal requirements and any relevant external donor requirements
  • Identify Nutrition programme supplies needs and coordinate with the logistics team to put in place a sensible phased procurement plan while ensuring quality assurance
  • Work closely with the M&E team to put in place a sector plan, ensuring this links to reporting requirements, and contribute to organisational learning through development of articles and lessons learnt papers
  •  Identify learning and training needs and contribute to capacity development to improve quality of nutrition work.

To be successful you will have experience of leading nutritional response in an emergency and you must also be comfortable in and adaptable to challenging and complex environments. In addition you must have:

  • A Masters level in Public Health Nutrition, or a related subject, or equivalent field experience
  • Previous experience of first phase international emergency humanitarian response
  • Demonstrable monitoring and evaluation skills with the ability to work both in an advisory and a hands on implementation capacity
  • Experience of preparing successful funding proposals for donors
  • Proven capacity to supervise, train and coach staff in Nutrition technical skills.

Desirable skills:

  • Fluency in French or Arabic is desirable.
  • Experience in Cash Transfer programming  

All members of our HST team are available and ready to be deployed anywhere in the world at short notice.  You will normally work unusual hours, undertake a lot of travel (up to 80% of the time) and will often work in stressful and insecure environments.
