Save the Children is the world’s leading independent organisation for children. We work in 120 countries. We save children’s lives; we fight for their rights; we help them fulfil their potential.

We work together, with our partners, to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives.

In response to the current situation in Nepal, Save the Children is in the process of putting together a team provide emergency response support. As part of this we are looking for a Disaster Risk Reduction & Climate Change Adaptation Adviser to provide expertise and support to our upscale in the area.

The role of the DRR/CCA Adviser is to contribute to Save the Children’s capacity to meet its Child Survival objectives and improving children’s rights, through support to Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) programme planning, implementation and M&E. Many emergencies have a DRR or CCA component incorporated into Save the Children’s response; and in many cases DRR or CCA work has been happening in advance of the onset of disaster. These interventions may be integrated or cross-cutting through proposals or if necessary they could take shape as ‘stand-alone’ activities. However this is not always the case: the DRR and CCA Adviser will contribute to the strengthening of child-centred DRR & CCA capacities and interventions for emergency response, in particular linking response actions with ongoing disaster risk reduction work, and especially for all declared emergencies.

The role will ensure that child-centred DRR & CCA objectives are written into all declared emergency response strategies, including specific consideration of child-centred DRR & CCA during the transition from response to recovery to development.

The adviser is responsible for ensuring that quality programmes are initiated and capacities developed to provide and effectively mainstream child-centred DRR & CCA into emergency programmes.

Deployments are expected to last for 6 weeks with the possible of extension where funding can be secured.

We are interested in hearing from you if you have experience of working in a similar role in an emergency or you can demonstrate experience of working in similarly complex countries or environments (please outline this in your cover letter).

Due to the critical need of this position and the nature of the response, applications will be reviewed on a daily basis and the position may be filled before the closing date.

We offer candidates a competitive salary package which includes both medical insurance, accommodation and other benefits for the duration of their contract.

To apply, please send a covering letter along with up-to-date CV, in English to the link provided. Please note: due to the critical nature of this recruitment, applications will be reviewed as they are received and successful candidates contacted on an on-going basis.

We need to keep children safe so our selection process reflects our commitment to the protection of children from abuse.
