The Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is the leading organization in the world that promotes the disclosure of economic, environmental and social impacts. This helps organizations to understand and manage their performance and to be transparent and accountable about their impacts. The aim is to promote the transformation of business, markets, economies and society toward a sustainable future for all.

GRI is looking for a Chief Executive that can help bring this vision to scale by driving uptake of the GRI reporting standard. This is an exceptional opportunity to lead a unique organization: young, creative and international; highly respected in academia and civil society; and highly influential in business and government – from global 250 companies to the United Nations.

Founded in 1997, GRI has grown from a small team in a single office to a global organization with a truly global influence – with a Secretariat of 70 staff members in Amsterdam and ‘Focal Point’ offices in Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, India, South Africa and the USA.

This is an exciting time for GRI and for the new Chief Executive. Sustainability reporting has never been more important or topical. Most organizations started sustainability reporting voluntarily. More recently governments and markets are introducing policies and regulations to accelerate growth in this practice by encouraging or requiring more organizations to be ever more transparent.

GRI’s Sustainability Reporting Guidelines are today the de facto global standard; the most-widely used and referenced in the world. Thousands of companies, including over 90 percent of the largest 250 companies in the world and over 70 percent of the largest 100 companies in over 40 countries, disclose sustainability information – something simply unimaginable when GRI started only 17 years ago.

The new Chief Executive will demonstrate a strong affinity with GRI’s vision and mission. The incoming leader will be inspiring and persuasive, experienced in strategic and operational management, and highly skilled at engaging with and convening diverse stakeholders.

Additional details:

  • GRI offers a competitive salary and benefits commensurate with capabilities, experience and the market (standard benefits include paid leave, health insurance, retirement, and other benefits);
  • GRI is a multinational, multi-stakeholder organization, and believes its work is enhanced through being able to draw on a diversity of gender, ethnic and cultural perspectives. Having a global reach is particularly important to its work, and it would therefore particularly welcome applications from around the world, from a range of different backgrounds.
  • This is an Amsterdam-based position. While GRI’s business language is English, skills in other world language(s) would be advantageous.

Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is an Equal Opportunity Employer and encourages applications from qualified individuals regardless of race, religious creed, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation or disability.
