We are looking for an experienced Programmes Manager to join our South of England team working in the UK Programmes department. Our mission in UK Programmes is to contribute to a significant and sustained improvement in early learning for young children growing up in poverty, helping to narrow the gap between poor and better-off children.

Our South of England Country Team sits in Farringdon and includes three other Programmes Managers and three Trainers. We work in specific areas across the region, where we develop partnerships and deliver programmes which improve the life chances of children living in poverty in their early years.

This role will focus on our work in Margate and be expected to be based in Margate on a regular basis working closely with our partners there to develop relationships with them and across the borough. In Margate we will use the best available evidence of what works in the early years to show how local systems change and innovation can have a positive impact on children growing up in poverty. The proportion of time spent in Margate may change over time as the work progresses and encompass other areas in the future. In areas Programmes Managers are expected to develop relationships and gain understanding of the local context from an early stage.

You will lead Save the Children’s work in the local area, which includes:

  • Developing partnerships with local decision makers to facilitate a long-term, strategic vision of how we can support children and their families
  • Building relationships with local authorities, schools, children’s centres, and practitioners working directly with children and families living in poverty to support the delivery of our programmes and interventions
  • Working with colleagues across UK Programmes to ensure their funding, communications, development and quality assurance work is informed by the local context and need of your areas

To be successful you will have a thorough understanding of the UK education system, including provision for the early years. Experience of developing relationships or delivering programmes from a charity perspective would be advantageous. You will be motivated to work with children and families living in poverty to support them and contribute to narrowing the attainment gap between those living in poverty and their better off peers. In addition, you will have:

  • Experience of developing networks and relationships with a wide range of partners and stakeholders
  • Ability to be self-motivating, to work on your own initiative and be accountable for your own work
  • Experience of delivering small to medium-scale programmes from start to finish
  • The ability to work across teams – including those located outside of the London office – to deliver results
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to communicate to a range of audiences with impact

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
