TrustLaw

TrustLaw is the Thomson Reuters Foundation’s global pro bono legal program. Our mission is to spread the practice of pro bono worldwide to drive social change. We help high-impact NGOs and social enterprises to grow, streamline their operations and navigate complex laws and regulations by connecting them with free legal assistance from the best law firms around the world. We also deliver groundbreaking legal research on key social and policy issues that our members use to support their advocacy and law reform efforts.

Launched in 2010, TrustLaw has grown to include over 4,000 members in 175 countries, including over 750 law firms and in-house legal teams and over 3,500 NGO and social enterprise members.

The Foundation is recruiting a Legal Intern, TrustLaw. The position would be based in New York and working with our Regional Lead and Legal Manager, would provide support to TrustLaw’s activities across the Americas.

Responsibilities

  • Interview NGOs and social enterprises to scope their legal projects.
  • Support the recruitment and management of law firm and in-house legal members.
  • Support the generation and promotion of TrustLaw research publications to reach a global audience.
  • Support in the launch of TrustLaw events in the Americas, including legal workshops and clinics.
  • Support the development and maintenance of data collection processes and informational databases.

Qualifications

  • Full-time student in a JD or JD/MBA or JD/MPP program at a US ABA accredited law school, with a history of academic excellence and in good standing.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, fantastic written communication skills and an ability to adapt messages to different audiences.
  • Excellent organisational skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritise.
  • The candidate will have a strong interest working with the charitable, philanthropic or social enterprise sector.
  • An early adopter with an ability to quickly pick up new technologies.
  • Experience using Salesforce or advanced Microsoft excel skills desirable.
  • Additional languages, particularly Spanish, would be favourable.

Internship positions are unpaid and students are expected to be enrolled in a course which awards academic credit for the internship experience. Applications are accepted throughout the academic year for spring and summer internships and we have flexibility on exact dates.
