Do you want to be involved in a game changing humanitarian aid effort?   Then join The Start Network as Chief of Staff, supporting the leadership of the Network in delivering the creation of an independent Start Network Charity.  This is an exciting and unique opportunity to contribute to a world-changing movement..

The Start Network is a global network of 42 national and international NGOsaiming to deliver effective aid, harnessing the power and knowledge of the network to make faster and better decisions to help people affected by crises in an increasingly complex and uncertain world. They promote a way of working that reduces the power of centralised institutions and give more control to communities and individuals on the front line of crises.

As Chief of Staff you will report to the CEO and line manage the Start Network leadership team, ensuring effectiveness, continuity and resilience in a management capacity. You will also be responsible for leading on the adoption of the 4 common objectives across the entire team (communications, fundraising, membership engagement, effective use of Network resources). You will provide back up, support, understanding and extra capability in the Leadership team as well as bring people together.

To be successful you will be able to demonstration superior management skills and excel at building relationships and collaborations. A facilitator, fixer, enabler, and force for staff empowerment, you will be experience in a wide range of cross-functional areas, with an eagerness to learn new skills. In addition you will:

  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Thrive on helping others to be their best selves and anticipating their needs before they are spoken
  • Be a systems and process-thinker and love to create order out of chaos
  • Have the ability to influence others to achieve outcomes and demonstrates the ethos of empowering staff.

The Start Network will become an independent Charity in March 2019.  This role will be employed by Save the Children, and then transfer (TUPE) over to the new Charity with the CEO and the rest of the team.

The Start Network is currently hosted by Save the Children UK.  At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work.
