About MAG:
MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines for our work to ban landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

About the Somalia programme:
The MAG Somalia programme is operating in a complex political and security environment with operations firmly established in Somaliland, Puntland and in South Central Somalia. The Somalia programme is also operating through partnerships in broader areas of South Central. The main area of focus in Somalia is Arms Management & Destruction (AMD).

About the role:
MAG operates a number of AMD projects, aimed at decreasing the risk of weapons divergence and accidental explosions. These projects include building new and secure armouries and explosive stoer houses, improving the security of existing stores, destruction of out-dated or obsolete weapons and training local armoury managers. We are seeking a Technical Field Manager – Team Leader to lead, oversee and safely manage all aspects of our AMD operations and related tasks in the project in accordance with our Standard Operating Procedures. The post-holder will also assist and support the Country Director in developing the project strategy, plans, proposals and budgets with regard to technical training and operations in line with MAG’s mission and mandate.

About you:
To be successful in your application to this role, you will need to show previous experience of successfully managing AMD projects in a challenging and geographically diverse environment. This should include experience of SALW and Ammunition Management, with technical qualifications as an ATO (or equivalent) being desirable. Previous experience in the humanitarian sector is desirable but not essential. You will however have experience of leading and managing national and international staff and some previous experience of liaising with national authorities, local partners, donors and NGOs. You should have the ability to represent MAG at the highest levels and be able to work diplomatically in a politically sensitive and unpredictable environment. The successful candidate will support and travel between all of our bases within the Somalia Programme that are often remote with basic amenities and therefore applicants will need to be able to deal with living and working in challenging environments.
