MAG saves lives and builds futures by working with others to reclaim land contaminated with the debris of conflict, to reduce the daily risk of death or injury for civilians, and to create safe and secure conditions for development. MAG shared the 1997 Nobel Peace Prize as a founding member of the International Campaign to Ban Landmines. Our vision is a safe and secure future for men, women and children affected by armed violence and conflict.

We are looking for an exceptional Policy and Advocacy Coordinator to work with our Director of Policy and Advocacy. This is a fantastic opportunity to a join a dynamic international charity at a point where we are increasing our policy and advocacy capacity and ambition. It is a new post and so you will have a unique opportunity to help shape it.

MAG’s policy and advocacy work aims to achieve positive change that benefits conflict-affected communities. It does this by a combination of awareness-raising and persuasion of decision-makers, presenting compelling cases for policy continuity or change. MAG’s policy and advocacy work is based on evidence and experience from our global programme and aims to give voice to communities affected by conflict.

In this role, you will ensure the effective coordination of MAG’s HQ-led policy and advocacy work, as well as support policy and advocacy work at country and regional levels. You will also support the development of partnerships with organisations and institutions working on humanitarian and development issues. You will need to build strong relationships with teams at our head office in Manchester, and overseas, especially with colleagues working on operational programming, public and government fundraising and communications.

The successful candidate will have previous experience of working in an advocacy or campaign role, with experience helping develop and deliver policy and advocacy materials and plans. With experience of designing, editing, publishing and launching reports and excellent project planning skills, the post-holder will be able to coordinate a range of activities and projects. A keen eye for detail will also be required, as well as the ability to coordinate and influence internal and external stakeholders.

Experience in the disarmament sector would be an advantage, but is not essential, however a genuine knowledge of humanitarian policy and willingness to learn about MAG’s global work in detail will be.
