The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the IRC offers lifesaving care and life-changing assistance to refugees forced to flee from war or disaster. At work today in over 40 countries and 22 U.S. cities, we restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure. The IRC leads the way from harm to home.

Background:
Following the earthquake on January 12, 2010 the IRC immediately deployed its emergency response team to appropriately respond to needs within the community. Now, IRC Haiti has shifted its focus to providing appropriate, quality support to vulnerable Haitians and to Haitian government agencies. The goals of this support are to advance women’s, youth’s, and children’s protection and empowerment, and to improve sanitary conditions in internally-displaced persons (IDP) camps and urban neighborhoods. This is carried out through programming in IRC Haiti’s current sectors of Child & Youth Protection and Development (CYPD), Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE), and Environmental Health (EH).
