This role does not require the right to work in the UK

We are looking for an Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) Assessment Advisor for our external roster who can be rapidly deployed or undertake technical consultancies, when the need arises and the capacity of the current team is exceeded.

Save the Children’s origins lie in emergency response. The Emergency Health Unit (EHU) is an operational team deployed to support the Save the Children Humanitarian Health, Nutrition, HIV and WASH Strategy in providing and improving humanitarian responses. The EHU holds a pre-standing emergency health capacity to deploy in the event of a major disaster, diseases outbreak or conflict that affects population health and they will be set up within 72 hours of the disaster or identified emergency.

As a result of the ever changing landscape and the increased demand for specialist, rapidly deployable staff we are finding ourselves relying on various surge capacities more than ever. To ensure the successful deployment of the Emergency Health Unit (EHU) we are looking to build up our international external roster, to ensure it is made up of skilled, experienced specialists across multiple sectors who are rapidly deployable in the event of an emergency.

Being on the roster, you will only be deployed when gaps are identified in our responses and depending on the nature of the response, you may be deployed at short notice, often to insecure locations. The roster does not automatically translate to a paid role as it is dependent on the scale of our response and the availability of roster members. A deployment will be offered to members when needs arise and those with the right skillset and availability will be selected for deployment.

To become part of the external roster as an Infant and Young Child Feeding in Emergencies (IYCF-E) Assessment Advisor you will have experience working in a range of emergency response contexts or fragile states and experience of working with nutrition cluster coordination mechanisms in country. In addition you will:

  • Be a health professional with a Masters in Public Health or Public Health Nutrition or have equivalent field experience
  • Ability to write clear and well-argued assessment plans and reports
  • Previous experience in nutrition assessments management, coordination, implementing assessments within donor constraints, on time and within budget
  • Have previous experience of designing, conducting and supporting IYCF-E assessments
  • The ability to work both in an advisory and a hands-on implementation capacity
  • Have experience managing assessment teams at the field level
  • The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.
