MAG Vacancy: Regional Security Advisor – Middle East

The total salary package for this position is £37,384 - £40,972 per annum* including basic salary, hardship allowance and cost of living allowance.

 About MAG in the Middle East Region:

 

MAG has been present in the Middle East region for over 20 years, and works across a number of locations, including Iraq, Lebanon and Syria Response programme. All of these programmes are operating in  complex political and security environments and have expanded significantly in the last year. Our work supports recovery from conflict by finding and destroying explosive remnants of war, and delivering risk education session to communities, so that people can raise their families and pursue their livelihoods in a safe and secure environment, free from fear of death or injury.

About the role:

 

We are currently recruiting for a Regional Security Advisor (RSA) to support all of our programmes across our Middle East regional portfolio. This is a new position and the primary function of the RSA will be to provide advice to the Regional and Country Directors on all safety and security issues, as they relate to staff, assets and operations. The RSA will monitor and assess security conditions, and make recommendations to the Regional Director, Country Directors and the Global Security Advisor as appropriate.   A solid understanding of NGO security management is a key requirement for the role, as is effective communication with key internal and external stakeholders.  This is a great opportunity to use your extensive technical knowledge and experience in security management to support an organisation working hard to improve the lives of communities in a very challenging environment. The RSA will report into the Regional Director for the Middle East, The base location will be Erbil but with extensive travel throughout the region.

 

 About you:

 

The successful candidate will have considerable experience of security planning and implementation, preferably gained in the context of relief operations in highly insecure areas. The ability to analyse rapidly changing security environments, and react appropriately is also essential. Candidates should ideally also have experience of working in the Middle East Region. In addition, you must be able to demonstrate excellent communication and liaison skills with an awareness of diplomacy and tact. Areas of operations are often remote with basic amenities, so applicants will need to be able to deal with living and working in challenging environments. Verbal and written English is essential for this role, with Arabic language skills being beneficial.
