We are looking for a graduate or post graduate to join the Inclusive Development Team as Research Adviser, contributing to high quality research and statistical analysis to support the global ‘Every Last Child’ campaign which is working to ensure 15 million of the world’s forgotten children have access to lifesaving health care, quality education and protection.

Working in more than 120 countries, we do whatever it takes to create breakthroughs in the way the world treats children. Our Policy, Advocacy, and Campaigns department is where we drive political agendas at national and global levels. We’ve integrated lobbying, policy, research and campaigning into one agile, powerful engine for change. Together, we save children’s lives, fight for their rights and help them fulfil their potential.

As Research Adviser, you will provide quantitative research support to the Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns division on topics related to child survival, education and protection, with a cross-cutting focus on inequality and exclusion. You will contribute to Save the Children’s strong track record of producing influential and cutting edge research that enhances our ability to achieve change for the most disadvantaged children globally and nationally. You will also work with colleagues to design and produce quality research and statistical analysis to support advocacy on a range of subjects linked to child survival, health and protection. In addition you will:

  • Produce headline statistics to generate media coverage for Save the Children advocacy issues
  • Contribute to the dissemination and further development of the Group-Based Inequalities Database (GRID), Save the Children’s unique disaggregated data set on inequalities that affect children
  • Provide advice and capacity building research methodology to colleagues across the division and country offices
  • Contribute to strategic horizon scanning for Save the Children, helping to identify policy and research trends and future research priorities for the organisation
  • Contribute to the divisional advocacy objective to improve collection and reporting of disaggregated data to monitor SDG progress.

To be successful you will have strong qualitative analytical skills, including familiarity with international development data sources. Good knowledge of large household surveys in developing countries and experience using advanced statistical software are also essential.  You will be motivated by the opportunity to apply high quality research to advocacy within a large NGO and by our mission and strategic objectives. In addition you will have:

  • Existing knowledge and experience of working on one or more of the following: child poverty, child protection, development policy, exclusion, inequality, accountability and data for monitoring progress
  • The ability and interest to effectively integrate research and policy work with wider organisational activities
  • Strong communication skills at a level appropriate for external presentations and sound planning skills, including the ability to think creatively and innovatively
  • A commitment to team working and an understanding of how to contribute to cross-team initiatives
  • The ability to work well and flexibly, while also able to take initiative and work under pressure with limited supervision.

At Save the Children we are committed to the safeguarding and protection of children in our work. We will do everything possible to ensure that only those who are suitable to work with children are recruited to work for us. This post is subject to a range of vetting checks including a criminal records disclosure.

Our mission is to inspire breakthroughs in the way the world treats children and to achieve immediate and lasting change in their lives. If you share our mission, are passionate about making it happen and strongly believe you can contribute then join us and we'll give you every opportunity to succeed. We look forward to hearing from you.
