Economic and Social Development The Source

The Source is an online independent business and financial news platform headquartered in Harare, Zimbabwe, delivering accurate breaking news and in-depth analysis. The service was established by the Thomson Reuters Foundation in 2013, and provides free syndication to other Zimbabwean news outlets in an attempt to foster improvements in the country’s journalistic standards and its professional media environment.

The Source is a fully independent finance and business news service for Zimbabwe. Launched in October 2013, it delivers breaking and exclusive news and in-depth coverage of markets, commodities and companies across all sectors. The Source gives national and global businesses and investors the accurate, up-to-date news needed to engage all stakeholders in Zimbabwe’s rapidly developing economy.

The Source puts financial and economic news firmly in a Zimbabwean context. Coverage includes national accounts, budgets and aid, capital flight, stock markets, debt, risk and ratings, currencies, reporting companies, privatisation, national media, mining and agriculture.
Since it launched in 2013, The Source has broken major stories on share sell-offs, takeovers, foreign investment deals, mining deals, the precious gem sector, state-owned accounts, mobile tariffs and insurance. It has secured exclusive interviews with government ministers and led coverage of visits by foreign leaders.

All stories published on The Source are original journalism produced by in-house reporters and a robust national stringer network. The Source operates under a Creative Commons licence, and content can be republished by other media outlets. From the day The Source went live, the service has enjoyed widespread pick-ups by national, African and international media.
