Economic and Social Development European Forum Alpbach

Thomson Reuters Foundation, in partnership with the European Forum Alpbach and with the support of the National Endowment for Democracy, will run an online reporting workshop for 15 journalists from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) during the European Forum Alpbach from the 28th August - 1st September.

Overview

The Forum, which takes place each year in the picturesque village of Alpbach in the Austrian Tyrol, is a festival of ideas that brings together people from across the ideological and generational divide.

A veteran of the resistance during World War Two and a philosopher launched the Forum in 1945 as an intellectual platform to discuss ways of developing Europe’s cultural, scientific and humanitarian heritage and promoting European integration.

Today, it operates as an interdisciplinary platform for science, politics, business and culture and uses its annual get-together and other events throughout the year to address the relevant socio-political questions of our time.

Here’s how it describes its role: “We connect international decision-makers from all sectors of society with an interested audience and committed young people. Our goal is to create a dialogue across the generational, ideological and other lines that divide us.”
